Help with sump please.

Postby FtWayneFish » Thu Jul 29, 2010 3:03 pm

I have my 10g nano and would like to do a skimmer and a sump.

I know jesse said theres no reason to skim a 10g with the levels of "poo" in the water not being adequate, and the 5g water changes I do each week.

So lets say I want to get a skimmer no matter what. What is the best one bang for my buck.

And I have a sump from a friend, wet dry type, with a 465gph pump and return outlet and hose. I also have the drain hose.

My problem is.... The hob overflow. I only like have the outta tank side, sponge and box and drain bulkhead the hose attaches to. Nothing for the u-bend to go into the tank side.

So I was looking at eshopps new nano overflow? its 4x2 and it flows 400gph.
Or are they easy to make one? Nice and tiny for in tank and use the larger one for outta the tank that I already have?

I really appreciate your skimmer thoughts and what I should do for overflow in tank.

Anything a lil cheaper? If there really isnt I understand that too.

Im still stuck on sump overflow. Either new box since mines missing the tank side or drill the 10g.

if you drill .. pick up a new tank and drill that one and transfer everthing over at once the you can use the one you are currently running as a baffless sump cap the drain and add a baffle then let the watter flow

the skimmers are just over 100 bucks new. can be picked up used for less than 100. nothing cheaper in a skimmer worth buying.

Thanks mojo.

Mayhem, awesome link thankyou! That box looks small! NICE. I wish it gave dimensions or flow rate?

I also am not looking to buy another 10g and swap. I realize this would be much easier, but I think I might lover the water level and drill it. Then I dont have to upset everything and I all ready have the sump portion. My tank is 7 months old now is really starting to get coraline everywhere too.

Id like the superior filtration of a wet dry sump vrs my HOB's, clean display look and room for a skimmer just for overkill.

EDIT: found the flow rate, site says its dictated my bulkhead size, nano box is 300 gph. Pump I have is 465gph. That going to be ok?

Should be fine you can put a pvc ball valve on your return pump to bach the flow down a lil. What were you wanting to do on the return side... a hob return or drill and do a line lock they have those kits as well at glass holes

Lil kit I have has a hose and ubend and nozzel thing for the return.

I would be all good to go if the overflow box had the in-tank portion, not just the drain. See what im saying? Everyrthing is there except the in-tank box that water from the tank overflows into, the out-of tank drain is there, just not the prefilter box?

So since I have to either buy a whole overflow box or make my own. I figured drill it for a cleaner look, same price really.
